Michael Weiss

Business Transitions Coordinator | The Industrial Commons

Michael serves as the Business Transitions Coordinator. Michael grew up in the Detroit area, where he began to understand how globalization and decline of industry and good work can create long-lasting wealth inequality, environmental issues, and cycles of poverty.

Michael graduated from Appalachian State University, spending his time during and after school in community and political organizing roles, focusing on the connections between healthy economies, affordability, and healthy environments. More recently, he supported First Nation Governments in Canada to develop and finance local, sustainable economic and conservation initiatives. He is committed to the localization of wealth in our communities and believes that local, democratic ownership and decision is key for a healthy economy and planet.

Today, Michael lives in Boone and loves to rock climb, road bike, and read fantasy novels.
